Mary Steven's Hospice's Treecycle Volunteer

Written by Katherine Garratt | 06-Jan-2022 16:41:17

Today, I had the pleasure of volunteering for Mary Stevens Hospice’s Treecycle scheme.

Battling through snow, rain and sub-zero temperatures, I represented Superfast IT to collect over 30 trees around Wollaston and Stourbridge.

While, at first, it was rather daunting driving a huge van around some seriously narrow, one-way backstreets, with plenty of ‘We’ve driven past it’ and ‘Can we fit through here?’ moments, it has been a really positive and rewarding experience. Meeting lots of lovely people along the way, it’s great to be able to help towards raising a significant amount of money for such a worthy cause.

Treecycle scheme

For those unfamiliar with the Treecycle scheme, Mary Steven’s Hospice has offered locals the opportunity to collect their real Christmas trees in exchange for a donation. Over the next few days, an army of volunteers will be collecting Christmas trees from outside residents' houses.

The Treecycle scheme, spearheaded by Tom Mander from Alloy Wire International, has been a huge success! I was really pleased to hear that it’s on track to break last year’s record – collecting more Christmas trees and raising more vital funds.

Well done to Tom and thank you to my volunteer buddy, Charlotte, as well as to Ruth and the other volunteers at Mary Steven's Hospice for their huge efforts. A special thank must go to Superfast IT’s Founder and MD, James Cash, for providing me the flexibility to volunteer. It’s not something I’ve been able to do before and demonstrates the wonderful values encompassed by Superfast IT.
